GREENSBORO, NC - The CNU women's basketball team won their first of two games this weekend with a 71-59 victory at Greensboro Friday night. With the victory, the Captains remain unbeaten on the season and match the most wins in program history with a 24-0 record.
Barbara Davis (Catharpin, VA) led the Captains with 19 points in her return to the lineup after missing 5 games. Davis was helped by 16 points from two-time All-American,
Chelsie Schweers (Chesapeake, VA), her lowest output of the season since she was held to 15 against Lynchburg in the season opener.
Jessica Moore (Fredericksburg, VA) contributed 13 points and 8 rebounds.
The Captains got off to a quick start on the strength of a 14-3 run and led by as many as 23 points while building a 45-24 lead at the half. The Captains built their lead by shooting 53% from the floor and out-rebounding the Greensboro Pride 22-12, including 10 offensive rebounds, during the first half.
The Pride made a spirited comeback during the second half and whittled a 25 point CNU lead down to twelve points late in the second half when Freshman Bianca Richburg hit two free throws to bring the score to 67-55. Greensboro was led by Richburg who scored a game-high 23 points.
The Captains conclude their regular season schedule on Saturday afternoon when they play Methodist in Fayetteville, NC at 4:00 pm. The game will be broadcast live on Xtra 99.1 FM and on Captains Sports Live on CNUsports.com.
