Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Just three days after suffering through a 20-4 defeat at the hands of Randolph-Macon on Sunday, the CNU baseball team rebounded for a 10-3 win over the Yellow Jackets Wednesday at Captains Park.
Tied 2-2 through six innings, the Captains grabbed the lead with two in the seventh and then broke it open with six runs in the eighth.
Shannon Mark, who had four hits in the game, gave CNU the lead with a triple to right center that scored
Connor Madden who had singled. Mark then scored after
Drue Vernon walked and RMC catcher Jay Lichter threw wildly to second on a Vernon steal attempt.
Then, in the eighth, Mike Romett reached on an error and came all the way home on a triple by
Parker Neal. The Captains then loaded the bases and Vernon cleared them with a booming double.
Starter
Josh Brinkman hurled five effective innings, allowing four hits and two runs before leaving on a pitch count in favor of freshman
Ryan Fleischmann, who got the victory. He surrendered two hits and one run in three innings.
Chris Malvagna finished by striking out the side around one walk.
Mark had two RBIs. Madden finished with three hits and an RBI, while Neal had two hits and an RBI and
Shayne Kersey added two hits.
The Captains are now 1-2 and host Piedmont Friday at 2 p.m. at Captains Park.
