Baker's Three Lifts CNU Men Over Ferrum, 61-58

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Senior Theo Baker drained a three-pointer from the corner to lift the CNU men to a 61-58 win over Ferrum Sunday afternoon at the Freeman Center.

Baker's shot came with 14.4 seconds remaining. The Captains then held off Ferrum in the closing seconds as the Panthers missed two shots.

CNU had a 31-30 halftime lead and had to battle the Panthers all the way to the end. The game saw seven lead changes and ten ties.

Mark Blasingame, who became just the third Captain in history to grab 1,000 rebounds, hit a jumper to draw CNU even at 58 with 1:14 to play. Ferrum's Jerrell Wade then turned the ball over giving Baker his opportunity.

Baker led CNU with 13 points while Brian Hermann and Mike Green added 10 each. Ferrum, which is now 10-14 and 4-7 in conference play, was paced by Derek Mitchell with 16 points and 21 rebounds.

The Captains are now 10-12 and 5-5 in the USA South.

They close the regular season by visiting Greensboro and Methodist Friday and Saturday.
