NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The ninth-ranked CNU women's basketball team ensured itself of the No.1 seed in the USA South conference tournament with a 90-55 win over Meredith at the Freeman Center Saturday afternoon.

After staying close for part of the first half, the Captains grabbed a 40-29 halftime lead and outscored the Avenging Angels, 50-26, in the second half.

CNU had five players in double figures, led by Chelsie Schweers with 29. Jessica Moore scored 12, while Kimmy Hopkins and Lauren Gural added 11 each and Jen Falin tallied 10.

The Captains are now 22-0 and 15-0 in conference play, while Meredith is 6-14 and 5-10.

The Captains take on second place Ferrum tomorrow in the Freeman Center at 2 p.m.
