CNU Basketball Travels to Lynchburg and Frostburg State this Weekend

Captains look for first road win this season

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The CNU men's basketball team is looking for its first road victory of the year as they travel to Lynchburg College for a 7 pm game tonight and then on to Frostburg State for a 1 pm tilt Sunday, December 19.

Christopher Newport is 4-3 heading into tonight's contest, led  by a potent scoring attack with four players averaging double figures. Junior guard Conley Taylor is leading the way, with 20.1 points per game, while rookie Tra Benefield is scoring 16.3 points and hauling in a team-high 7.1 rebounds per game. Brian Herrmann (13.8 ppg) and Mike Green (13.6) round out the Captains in double figures.

CNU will face Lynchburg for the second time this season, after dropping the Hornets in the season opener, 108-100 in double overtime. Lynchburg has won five games since and are 5-5 on the season, led by Nate Campbell with 15.2 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.

Tonight's game will be followed up by another road game on Sunday, as CNU travels to Frostburg State for their final game before the holiday break. The Bobcats raced to a 5-1 start this season, but have lost three straight heading into Sunday's game. FSU ranks in the nation's Top 25 in steals per game (11.1) and are led by Brian Anderson with 14.3 points per game.
