MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Midfielder Clif Kipper (Hayes, Va.) scored in the 71st minute of play to lift #2 seed Christopher Newport University to a 1-0 win over #3 Averett University in the second semifinal of the 2010 USA South Men's Soccer Tournament.

Kipper scored off a touch pass from Winston Mattheisen (Norfolk, Va.), who's touch pass off his heel set Kipper up for the lone goal.

Justin Wolfe (Williamsburg, Va.) made six saves, playing all 90 minutes in net for the Captains (18-1-1).  Nate Barker made seven saves for Averett (12-6-2).

Christopher Newport out-shot Averett 17-11 and held a slim 6-5 edge in corner kicks.  Both teams had four scoring opportunities nullified by offside calls.

The Captains will face top seed North Carolina Wesleyan College in tomorrow's USA South Championship match at the Smith River Sports Complex at 2 p.m.  The Bishops advanced with a 3-0 win over #4 Methodist University in the earlier semifinal.

The winner of the title match tomorrow will claim the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament.
