NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Head coach
John Krikorian and the CNU men's basketball team will be back in action this weekend as a part of the CNU Point Plaza Invitational on Friday and Saturday night. CNU will play Bridgewater College at 7:30 Friday night, preceded by Wesley College and York (N.Y.) at 5:30.
On Saturday, the consolation game will be at 5:30, followed by the championship game between the two game-winners at 7:30 pm.
CNU has started 2-1 this season, led by junior
Conley Taylor. Taylor was named the USA South Player of the Week and is averaging 24.7 points per game so far. Senior
Mike Green is second on the team, averaging 14.7 points per game and is also hauling in a team-high 7.0 rebounds per.
CNU's opponent on Friday night will be the Bridgewater College Eagles (1-3). Kyle Hammond (16.0 ppg) and Rick Malone (15.5 ppg and 7.8 rpg) are atop the scorebook for BC.
The first game on Friday will feature the Wesley College Wolverines (1-2) and the York (N.Y.) College Cardinals. Wesley has four players scoring in double figures so far this season, led by Paul Reynolds with 22.3 points per game. York's two-headed monster of Marcel Esonwune (17.5 ppg, 14.3 rpg) and William Holley (21.3 ppg, 8.8 rpg) leads the way for the Cardinals.
