NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- This weekend, the Freeman Center will play host to some of the nation's premier volleyball programs as a part of the 2010 NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship, including the 5th ranked Captains of Christopher Newport (32-2). Games begin Friday at 1:00 pm as CNU hosts its first ever NCAA Volleyball Regional Championship.

The first game on Friday will begin at 1:00 pm, featuring Randolph-Macon vs. Franklin & Marshall. The winner of that match will advance to play Saturday against 9th ranked Colorado College at 4:00 pm.
In Friday's second game, the eighth-ranked Eastern University Eagles will face off against Richard Stockton College at 3:30 pm. The winner will advance to face the winner of the night game, featuring the #5 Captains vs. Gallaudet University, at 6:00 pm.
Christopher Newport ranks number one in the nation in W-L percentage (.941) and are a top 15 team in hitting percentage (.262), kills per set (13.3) and assists per set (12.2). CNU is led by senior
Caitlyn Jansen, who ranks ninth in the nation in hitting percentage (.411) and junior setter
Jessie Heavenrich, who was named USA South Player of the Year.
Gallaudet is making its seventh NCAA appearance, after winning the North Eastern Athletic Conference championship in its first year in the league. The Bison faced off against CNU earlier this season in Newport News, and the Captains came away with a 3-0 victory. Paige Johnson leads the way, averaging 8.60 assists per set with over 1,000 in her junior year, while she is also hitting at a .442 clip.
