#6 Volleyball Beats Randolph-Macon in Three Sets

CNU volleyball earns 19th win with 3-0 victory over Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. – The sixth ranked Christopher Newport University volleyball squad earned another 3-0 victory on the road as they defeated Randolph-Macon College tonight. The Captains improve to 19-1 while the Yellow Jackets fall to 13-2.

Set scores for the match were 25-17, 25-22 and 25-16.

The first set saw the teams trading points with the Captains pulling away with four in a row making the score 13-9. The Captains maintained at least a three point lead for the rest of the set, winning 25-17.

Christie Fellows (Vienna, Va.) had six kills and one dig in the second set, leading the Captains to a 25-22 win.

CNU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third set with two kills from Caitlyn Jansen (Lorton, Va.) and one from Kara Elder (Charlottesville, Va.). The Captains built as much as a five point lead before the Yellow Jackets started gaining ground. But they could only get to within three points twice before the Captains won 25-16.

Jansen led the Captains in kills with 13 followed by Fellows with 11 who had a .688 hitting percentage on the night. Jessie Heavenrich (Cambria, Calif.) had 35 assists, one service ace and nine digs. Abby Hogge (Clifton, Va.) had a team-high 22 digs and a service ace.

Mallory Carter led the Yellow Jackets in kills with eight. Courtney Anderson had 16 assists while Marli Dabareiner had 16 digs.

The Captains return to action as they host the CNU Invitational this weekend in the Freeman Center with matches against Washington and Lee, #10 Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Haverford and Salisbury.
