NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Christopher Newport University volleyball team earned their 30th win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Gallaudet tonight in the Freeman Center. Set scores for the match were 25-11, 25-21 and 25-23.

The Captains jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first set and continued to pour on the points as the CNU won 25-11. The Captains finished the set with zero hitting errors and a .615 hitting percentage.

CNU took got on top of the Bison 10-5 in the second set but let them get back to within three with the score 13-10. The Bison continued to fight getting back to within three again late in the game at 23-20. But the Captains held on and won the last two points on kills by Lindsay Stephens (Lorton, Va.) and Bailey Jensen (Ashburn, Va.).

The third set saw the Bison take the lead early with a five-point run giving them a 6-2 lead over the Captains. After coming back to within one point the Bison went another run scoring six in a row making it a 13-6 Gallaudet lead. But the Captains battled back scoring six in a row to get within one at 13-12. The Captains were able to tie the game at 18 off a Bison service error. Both teams battled for each point with the Captains pulling ahead and winning 25-23.

Jensen led the Captains in kills with nine and Alyssa Kidd (Lynchburg, Va.) had 30 assists. The Captains totaled eight service aces and both Kidd and Abby Hogge (Clifton, Va.) had 12 digs. Chastity Lacy (Crozet, Va.) had a solo block and added an assisted block to lead the Captains.

CNU returns to the court this Saturday as they host Ferrum College at 11:00am and Averett University at 5:00pm.
