FERRUM, Va. -- The sixth-ranked CNU volleyball team (18-1, 11-0) earned another two victories today, sweeping Methodist and Greensboro in the regular season series. The Captains dropped Methodist in the opening match, 3-0, and then also dropped the Pride 3-0 to remain undefeated in league play.
CNU's
Jessie Heavenrich (Cambria, Calif.) had 37 assists in the Methodist match to lead the Captains past the Monarchs. She would add another 37 against Greensboro in the second match of the day.
Against Methodist,
Caitlyn Jansen and
Kara Elder would post double-digit kills, with 12 and 10 respectively. Elder would also add a team-high nine digs. The Captains would drop Methodist in three sets, 25-12, 25-11, 25-17.
In the second match of the day, it was a different pair of Captains stepping up, as
Bailey Jensen and
Cory Harris posted 12 and 10 kills respectively. Though the offensive leaders were different, the result was much the same, as CNU posted a 25-13, 25-19, 25-22 win over the Pride. Sophomore
Abby Hogge added 15 digs in the second match.
The sixth-ranked Captains have now won 17 straight matches, dating back to September 4 with a pair of wins over Dickinson College and Franklin & Marshall. CNU has dropped just one set in that span, going 51-1 against the 17 opponents.
CNU will stay on the road for their next match, as they head to Randolph Macon on October 5 for a matchup at 6:30 pm.
