WINCHESTER, VA – CNU's men's basketball team suffered a heart breaking loss 62-60, to conference foe Shenandoah in their conference opener. The loss drops the Captains to 5-6 on the season and 0-1 in the conference.
CNU led 42-27 at the half on the strength of Jake Capin's 19 first-half points and 57% shooting as a team. The Captains forced Shenandoah into 10 first-half turnovers and posted 18 points in the paint to earn a 15 point advantage at the half.
Shenandoah started the second half on a 10-0 run and slowly chipped away at the CNU lead and took the final lead with 9.9 seconds remaining in the game. The Captains struggled to convert baskets for the entire second half and finished the second half shooting only 27% from the floor.
CNU returns to action on Saturday at Randolph-Macon, currently ranked #1 in the nation by d3hoops.com.
