NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The CNU men fell behind Shenandoah early in the first half, rallied to take the lead, but ultimately dropped a 65-62 decision Wednesday night at the Freeman Center.
The Hornets jumped to a 19-6 lead, but the Captains battled back and actually took the lead into the lockeroom, 36-35, at halftime when
Josh Russell canned a three-pointer from just outside midcourt.
But a Kevin Kline layup with 4:18 to go put the Hornets up to stay, 57-55, and CNU fell to 9-9 for the year and 4-3 in the USA South.
Russell paced CNU with 15 points, while
Mark Blasingame added ten and 18 rebounds. Brandon Bryan led Shenandoah with 19 points. The Hornets are 8-12 and 5-2 in conference.
The Captains host St. Mary's Tuesday at 7:30.
