Women's Basketball Goes to 15-0 With a 74-60 Win Over Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. - The CNU women swept their trip against the second and third place teams in the USA South with a 74-60 victory over Ferrum Sunday afternoon that ran their perfect record to 15-0.

The Captains blasted out of the gate to a 20-4 lead and had a 42-22 margin at halftime.

The victory equalled the longest winning streak in CNU women's basketball history. The 1991-92 team won 15 in a row en route to a 22-6 record and eventual spot in the NCAA Sweet 16.

In this one, Ferrum scored the game's first two points, but once CNU got a layup from Barabra Davis and two free throws from Kimmy Hopkins, the Captains were never headed.

Chelsie Schweers once again led CNU in scoring with 18 points and closed to within two points of equalling Tia Moore as the third leading scorer in CNU women's baskretball history. She also led the Captains with six rebounds and had four steals.

Davis scored 17 points, just one short of her CNU high, making all six of her shots and five of six free throws. Jessica Moore added 11 points and Lauren Gural had 10.

CNU shot an even 50 percent, 27-54, and limited the Panthers to just 37 percent.

The win moved CNU to 8-0 in USA South play and dropped second place Ferrum to 6-3. They are 10-4 overall.

CNU returns to play next Friday at home with Methodist at 7 p.m.
