VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Sophomores Nao Masuda and Winston Mattheisen scored second half goals to lift the Christopher Newport men's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Baldwin-Wallace on the second day of the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins Classic Saturday.
Clif Kipper got the scoring started in the 14th minute unassisted from ten yards our. But B-W's Andrew Thompson hit from a little farther away ten minutes later to knot the score at 1-1 at halftime.
Masuda scored on a pass from Steven Farmer six minutes into the second half and then Mattheisen added a clincher on an assist from Karl Kummer in the 74th minute.
CNU out-shot the Yellow Jackets, 20-9, and goalkeeper Justin Wolfe made seven saves.
The Captains improve to 4-1 and await a home date with Marietta Friday at 7 p.m. in the Joe Pombriant Classic.
