Box Score SALISBURY, MD – Christopher Newport's baseball squad saw its season come to a close Saturday with a 12-5 loss to Johns Hopkins.
The Captains struck first when they took advantage of a Blue Jay miscue and scored two runs. JHU bounced back by scoring four in the bottom of the second to take a 4-2 lead.
In the third, CNU's Michael Romett plated two with a double to tie the score at 4-all.
Johns Hopkins answered in the bottom of the inning by taking the lead for good with eight runs to lead 12-4. Christopher Newport scored its final run on a wild pitch in the fourth.
Nine different Captains logged one hit in the win.
Jason Jenkins started and last 2 1/3 innings, giving up six runs, five earned, on seven hits. Chris Malvagna went 4 1/3 innings, yielding six unearned runs on four hits. Kyle Harsanyi pitched a perfect eighth.
JHU improves to 28-15 and will take on Shenandoah in the championship. CNU concludes the year 26-13-2.
