WASHINGTON, D.C. – Christopher Newport's baseball squad defeated Gallaudet Thursday, 9-1.

The Captains jumped out early, scoring four times in the first and one run in each of the second and third innings. CNU scored two more times in the fifth and once in the seventh. The Bison sandwiched their run in the bottom of the sixth.

Chris Despins finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and one RBI. Shayne Kersey was 1-for-3 with two RBI, Trae Bailey went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a run driven in. Parker Neal finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Brandon Berry started and went six innings, allowing a run on three hits, walked one and struck out eight to improve to 5-1 on the year. Kyle Harsanyi tossed two innings, allowing one hit, walking one and struck out three. Kyle Baumann tossed a perfect ninth, striking out all three batters he faced.

Gallaudet falls to 2-23-1 on the year while Christopher Newport improves to 18-6-1. CNU returns home Friday and Saturday when they host Methodist. Friday's game is set to start at 3 pm while Saturday's contest is scheduled to begin at 1 pm.
