BURLINGTON, NC – Christopher Newport's baseball squad was eliminated from the USA South Conference Tournament Saturday by NC Wesleyan, 7-6.

The Captains let a six-run lead slip away as the Bishops scored four times in the sixth and took the lead with three in the eighth.

CNU took its six-run lead on three two-run home runs hit by Trae Bailey, Michael Romett, and Chris Despins.

Bailey finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Despins was 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs, Romett was 1-for-3 with two RBI and Steven Lindemuth and Shannon Mark each went 2-for-4.

Brandon Berry started and went 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs, one earned, on five hits, walked five and struck out seven. Kevin Moreland relieved and last 1 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits, walked one and struck out two. Mike Giarrizzi suffered the loss, throwing an inning. He gave up one run on two hits. Kyle Baumann tossed a perfect ninth.

The Bishops improve to 22-16 while Christopher Newport falls to 21-9-1. The Captains return to action Wednesday when they travel to Catholic with first pitch set for 3:30 pm
