Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's baseball team pounded out 15 hits en route to a 13-3 win over Mary Washington in a non-conference tilt Saturday afternoon at Captains Park.
Five of the Captains 15 hits were for extra bases, three of which were home runs. Parker Neal hit a three-run home run in the fourth, Eric Cole also hit a three-run home run, his came in the fifth, and Steven Lindemuth hit a solo shot in the fifth.
CNU scored three times in the second and added another in the third. Christopher Newport pushed across five in the fourth and four more in the fifth.
Cole finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored. Mike Giarrizzi went 2-for-5, Lindemuth was 2-for-3, Despins finished 2-for-4 and Michael Romett was 2-for-3.
Josh Brinkman started and tossed six innings, allowed no runs on two hits and improved to 3-0 on the year. Kyle Harsanyi tossed a perfect seventh, striking out one and Kyle Baumann pitched the final two innings, allowed three runs on three hits, walked one and struck out three.
The Eagles fall to 10-8 on the year while the Captains improve to 15-4-1. CNU returns to action Tuesday when they head to Bridgewater with first pitch set for 4 pm.
