#17 Baseball Takes Down VA Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Christopher Newport's baseball team picked up a big win on Monday against the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College.  The Captains defeated VWC by a final score of 5-3.

 

Tyler McElhenny (1-1) got the start for CNU and went 6.1 innings for the win.  McElhenny gave up just one run on seven hits, while walking one and striking out four.  After Chris Malvagna pitched an inning and two thirds, Kevin Moreland came on to close out the game and pick up the save for the Captains.

 

CNU was lead offensively by four multi-hit performances from Parker Neal, Trae Bailey, Chris Despins, and Michael Romett.  Bailey and Despins scored two runs each, while Romett was 2-for-2 on the day, scored a run of his own and added 3 RBI's.

 

With the win the Captains improve to 14-4-1 on the year, while the Marlins fall to 13-7.

 

CNU returns home this Saturday to take on Mary Washington at 1:00pm.
