Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's baseball squad dropped an 8-4 decision to Shenandoah Sunday afternoon in a USA South contest.
The Hornets scored all eight of their runs in the first two innings, pushing across two in the top of the first and six more in the top of the second.
The Captains scored three times in the fifth and one more in the sixth for the final margin.
Trae Bailey finished 3-for-5 with two RBI. Michael Romett went 3-for-4 with one run driven in and Parker Neal was 2-for-4.
Jason Jenkins lasted just one inning, allowing seven runs on six hits. Ian Lenda tossed the final eight in relief, giving up one run on three hits, walked two and struck out five.
Shenandoah improves to 17-4 overall and 1-3 in USA South play. Christopher Newport falls to 13-4-1 on the year and 3-3 in conference play.
The Captains return to action Monday when they travel to cross-water rival VA Wesleyan with first pitch set for 3 pm.
