FARMVILLE, VA – Christopher Newport's baseball team had an explosive offensive performance in a win over Hampden-Sydney on Thursday afternoon.  The Captains defeated the Tigers by a final score of 14-8.

 

Brandon Berry got the start and the win for CNU, going 6 strong innings, giving up only 2 runs on 4 hits, while recording 8 strikeouts.  The game was wrapped up by the Captains bullpen as Kyle Baumann threw an inning and Kevin Moreland pitched the final two.

 

The Captains slugged 17 hits on the day, with eight of nine starting players notching a hit; seven of them with multi-hit performances.

 

The bulk of the run production was provided by Parker Neal and Michael Romett.  Both posted 3 hits, with Neal knocking in 5 runs and Romett adding 3 of his own.  Neal also scored 2 runs and stole a base in the contest.

 

The win is the Captains' 12th of the season, pushing their record to 12-3-1.  Meanwhile the loss drops the Tigers to 8-10 on the season.

 

CNU returns home this weekend to host conference-rival Shenandoah in a 2-game weekend series.  The games are on Saturday and Sunday; both set to start at 1:00pm.
