19th-Ranked Baseball Powers Past St. Mary’s (MD), 13-1

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD – Christopher Newport's baseball team smacked 17 hits en route to a 13-1 win over St. Mary's Thursday afternoon.

The Captains scored three times in each of the first two innings to take an early 6-0 lead. The Seahawks pushed across one run in the bottom of the second to cut the lead to 6-1.

CNU scored three more times in the fourth, one more in the sixth and three more in the seventh for the win. St. Mary's was limited to just seven hits.

Parker Neal finished 4-for-6 with a triple and four RBI. Chris Despins was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBI. Zach Hutchison went 2-for-4 with three runs scored, Mike Giarrizzi was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Michael Romett finished 2-for-4 with two driven in and Joey Martin was 2-for-5.

Brandon Berry picked up his second win of the year, going five innings, allowing one run on four hits, walked four and struck out two. Austin Lindley, Kyle Harsanyi, Tyler McElhenny, and Kevin Moreland combined for four innings, three hits, one walk and three strikeouts.

St. Mary's falls to 10-7 while Christopher Newport improves to 10-2-1. CNU hits the road Saturday as they head to Averett with first pitch set for 1 pm.
