No. 19 Baseball Slips Past Randolph-Macon, 3-1

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's baseball team, ranked 19th in the nation, snuck past Randolph-Macon Tuesday afternoon, 3-1, at Captains Park.

The Yellow Jackets got on the board first, plating a run on a CNU error. The Captains wasted no time as Shannon Mark's one out two-run single scored two in the bottom half of the frame.

Christopher Newport's Parker Neal tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single.

Mike Giarrizzi and Ian Lenda combined on a three-hitter. Giarrizzi started and went four innings, allowing one unearned run on one hit, walking four and striking out seven. Lenda threw the final five, yielding two hits, walked two and struck out one, to pick up the win in relief.

Neal finished 3-for-4. Eric Cole went 2-for-3 and Giarrizzi finished 2-for-4.

RMC falls to 4-8 on the year while CNU improves to 9-2-1. The Captains hit the road Thursday when they head to St. Mary's (MD) with first pitch set for 3 pm.
