RALEIGH, N.C. - Led by
Chelsie Schweers with 24 points, the CNU women continued their season-opening winning streak, defeating Meredith, 88-62 Saturday.
The Captains took the lead for good, 9-6, on a three-pointer by
Kimmy Hopkins, and increased the margin to 39-27 at halftime.
CNU then went on a 15-0 run near the start of the second half, leading 60-37 with 12:35 to go.Schweers and freshman
Barbara Davis each scored six points in the run. Davis finished with a career high 18 points and had seven rebounds.
Jessica Moore chipped in with 13 points while
Lauren Gural had nine assists.
Schweers was 4-6 on three-pointers as the Captains went 8-12 as a team. Hopkins was 2-4.
CNU shot .538 from the floor and outrebounded Meredith, 39-26.
The Captains are now 6-0 on the year, 3-0 in USA South play, and host Virginia Wesleyan Tuesday at 6 p.m. Meredith is 3-3 and 2-1 in the conference.
