NEW YORK, N.Y. - The CNU volleyball team rallied from a two sets to one deficit to score a fifth-set 15-13 victory and pull out a 3-2 NCAA first round win over Stevens Tech Thursday night.
The win puts CNU in the second round against top seeded NYU at 7 p.m. Friday.
CNU took the first set after breaking an 11-11 tie and went on to a 25-15 victory. Stevens bounced back to win the next two sets, 25-20, 25-22.
After struggling through those two, CNU showed tremendous heart to win the fourth, 25-20.
In the deciding set the Captains grabbed a 4-1 lead, but saw the Ducks take an 8-6 margin. CNU took the lead for good, 10-9, on an attack error by Stevens and drew out to a 14-11 lead.
The Ducks held off two match points, but freshman
Cory Harris finished the match sending CNU into the second round.
Elder finished with 19 kills and Jansen had 16. Harris added nine,
Bailey Jensen eight and
Chelsea McClure seven.
Abby Hogge had 21 digs, with Harris and McClure adding 12 each.
Jessie Heavenrich had 50 assists, McClure six service aces and
Ryann Lowery five.
The win gives CNU a school-record 34 wins and a 34-6 record.
