DANVILLE, Va. - CNU scored three second half goals to defeat Averett, 3-0, on the first day of a western Virginia weekend road trip for the seventh-ranked Captains.
After a scoreless first half,
Nao Masuda hit from 15 yards out in the 49th minute to put CNU on top. Masuda then assisted John Corsser in the 53rd minute and
Joseph O'Connell closed the scoring with an assist from
Clif Kipper in the 79th minute.
Justin Wolfe had to make just two saves in recording the shutout.
The win guarantees the Captains no worse than a first place tie in the USA South. CNU is now 15-2 overall and 5-0 in USA South play.
The Captains visit Ferrum Saturday at 5 p.m..
