Nicole Mitchell

Christopher Newport alumna Nicole Mitchell returns to the Freeman Center for her second year as an assistant coach in 2017, following a decorated playing career with the Captains from 2010-14. In her first season on the sidelines, the Captains posted one of the finest years in program history, going 29-3 with the team's second ever run to the NCAA National Semifinals.

She ranks 13th all-time in career scoring with 1,262 points, and also hauled in nearly 700 rebounds. The Captains made it to the NCAA Tournament three times while Mitchell was on the team, dancing to Final Four, Elite Eight, and Sweet 16 finishes. A three-time All-Conference selection at Christopher Newport, Mitchell was team captain for two years and as a freshman, was a member of CNU's first ever Final Four team in 2011.

After earning her undergraduate degree at Christopher Newport in 2014, Mitchell served as a graduate assistant women's basketball coach at Hood College for two seasons. She worked with post players and was responsible for coordinating recruiting efforts both on and off campus. Mitchell also has extensive camp instruction experience, working basketball camps since 2010. From 2014-16, she was also an assistant girls' basketball coach for the Fairfax Stars, an AAU team that won the Boo Williams Nike Invitational Championship in 2016.Â
