Captains Park

With the first pitch thrown on March 1, 2005, Christopher Newport entered a new era in its women’s softball history. The opening of Captains Park gave the extremely successful program a fitting home, one of the finest in the region.The state-of-the-art stadium includes a playing surface second to none, with drainage capabilities that will make rainouts a rare occurrence. There are also bull pens adjacent to each dugout and a section of comfortable, major league stadium type, chairback seating directly behind home plate. The stadium is part of CNU’s outstanding outdoor sports complex that includes a 4,300-seat football stadium plus top level venues for soccer, baseball, field hockey, lacrosse and tennis. There are also practice facilities for the sports within the complex.

From Chesapeake, Suffolk and Portsmouth
Follow routes to the Monitor-Merrimack Bridge Tunnel (I-664).
Cross the tunnel into Newport News and take Exit 5 to 35th Street and Warwick Blvd. (Route 60 West).

After about five miles on Warwick Blvd. (Route 60) turn left on Avenue of the Arts at J. Clyde Morris Blvd. Follow that to a traffic circle. Go 3/4 of the way around the circle. Then make the next right turn onto Moore’s Lane. After an S turn the stadium is on the right.

From Norfolk and Virginia Beach
Take I-64 West across the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel.
About 10 miles west of the tunnel take Exit 258B (Route 17 South, J. Clyde Morris Blvd.). Continue on J. Clyde Morris Blvd. to Warwick Blvd. where J. Clyde Morris becomes Avenue of the Arts. Follow that to a traffic circle. Go 3/4 of the way around the circle. Then make the next right turn onto Moore’s Lane. After an S turn the stadium is on the right.

From Richmond and Northern Virginia
Take I-64 East. Exit at Exit 258 A (Route 17 South, J. Clyde Morris Blvd). Continue on J. Clyde Morris Blvd. to Warwick Blvd. where J. Clyde Morris becomes Avenue of the Arts. Follow that to a traffic circle. Go 3/4 of the way around the circle. Then make the next right turn onto Moore’s Lane. After an S turn the stadium is on the right.

From Northwestern Virginia
Travel to I-95 South the head South around Richmond on I-295 until it meets I-64. Then take I 64 East. Exit at Exit 258 A (Route 17 South, J. Clyde Morris Blvd). Continue on J. Clyde Morris Blvd. to Warwick Blvd. where J. Clyde Morris becomes Avenue of the Arts. Follow that to a traffic circle. Go 3/4 of the way around the circle. Then make the next right turn onto Moore’s Lane. After an S turn the stadium is on the right.

From Western Virginia
Depending upon your location travel to I-81 North until it meets I-64 East and then follow I-64 around Richmond (you may elect to take the by-pass I-295 in case of heavy traffic in downtown Richmond. Then take I 64 East. Exit at Exit 258 A (Route 17 South, J. Clyde Morris Blvd). Continue on J. Clyde Morris Blvd. to Warwick Blvd. where J. Clyde Morris becomes Avenue of the Arts. Follow that to a traffic circle. Go 3/4 of the way around the circle. Then make the next right turn onto Moore’s Lane. After an S turn the stadium is on the left.

If you are nearer to U.S. 58, take it East until it meets I-664 heading toward the Monitor Merrimack Bridge Tunnel.
