Meaghan Galvin Earns Second-Team IWLCA All-American Honors

All-American Teams

GRAND LAKE, Colo. --
For the second straight year, Meaghan Galvin has picked up national accolades from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association as the senior standout collected second-team All-American honors after putting together one of the most remarkable campaigns in Christopher Newport history.

Adding to her ever-growing list of awards, Galvin was previously recognized as a first-team All-Conference and All-Region honoree. It also marks her second career All-American award after receiving second-team plaudits in 2016 as well.

Anchoring the team's attack, Galvin became just the second Captain ever to register at least 40 goals and 40 assists in the same season after finishing with 46 strikes and 44 helpers. Her 90 total points also equaled the seventh-highest single-season total in program history and ranked second in the Capital Athletic Conference this year.

Equally dominant on the draw, Galvin broke her own single-season program record and led the conference with 105 draw controls. In an unprecedented performance, she secured at least 10 draws in three contests during the year, including a program-record 13 at Southern Virginia on March 23. In the 17-year history of the CNU women's lacrosse program, all other Captains have combined for exactly two double-digit draw outings.

Lethal throughout the season, Galvin scored at least once in all 18 of her appearances and had 13 multi-goal efforts. She had at least four goals in three straight contests from March 4-14 and equaled her career-high with six strikes at St. Mary's (Md.) on April 12. She eventually finished the season with six hat-tricks and had two or more goals in her final six outings of the year.

Along with her finishing skills, Galvin was an elite facilitator throughout the 2017 campaign. She collected at least one assist in 16 of her 18 outings and had two or more on 13 occasions. She matched her career-high with five helpers against Roanoke on March 4 and Shenandoah on March 25. A two-time CAC Player of the Week, she eventually finished with 10 points against Roanoke and had another 10-point effort at St. Mary's (Md.), becoming only the third player in program history to reach double figures twice in a single season.

Capitalizing on her historic senior season, Galvin finished her career ranked fourth in program history with 292 points. She also stands as just the second player ever to finish her career with 100 goals and 100 assists after wrapping up her tenure ranked second at CNU with 118 helpers and fifth with 174 goals. The Arlington native also smashed the career draws record, finishing with 326. She holds four of the top-five single-season draw efforts and seven of the top-10 single-game marks.

The first Captain to earn IWLCA All-American honors, Galvin is also the program's only four-time first-team All-Region selection. Additionally, she is just the seventh player in league history to finish as a four-time first-team All-CAC pick and was named the conference and state Player of the Year in 2016.
