CNU's Kearney Named NJAC Offensive Player of the Week for Second Straight Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- For the second straight week, Christopher Newport junior quarterback K.J. Kearney has received recognition from the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Kearney was selected the NJAC's Offensive Player of the Week Sunday, one day after leading the Captains to a 42-28 victory over 17th-ranked Wesley College at POMOCO Stadium.

Kearney, from North Dinwiddie, Va., threw for three scores Saturday night and again set a new school passing mark in a single game with 400 yards. He set a new school record last week as well by throwing for 355 yards in CNU's 45-27 triumph at Hampden-Sydney.

Kearney, making just his third career start, completed 30 of 44 passes against the Wolverines and led the Captains to their third straight win in as many weeks. For the season, Kearney has now completed 68 of 102 attempts for 926 yards with six touchdown throws and no interceptions.

The victory over Wesley was the first for CNU in four games in the all-time series. Dating back to last season, Christopher Newport has now won its last six games.

The Captains, 3-0 and 2-0 atop the NJAC, head to Ewing, New Jersey, to take on the College of New Jersey (0-2, 0-1) next Saturday. Kickoff time is set for 12:00 noon.
