YORK, Pa. -- Freshman
Jessica Lee has been named the Capital Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, while junior
Grayson Reid picked up the men's weekly award after the two standouts pieced together strong efforts for the Christopher Newport cross country teams at the CNU Invitational last weekend.
Â
During the competition at Lee Hall Mansion, Lee and Reid both registered victories while leading the Captains to a pair of team titles during the non-Division I portion of the meet.
Â
On the women's side, Lee registered a time of 23:10 during the 6k at the CNU Invitational. That clocking not only won the non-Division I competition, but it marked the 10th-fastest time among all competitors at the meet. Overall, the Annandale native averaged a 6:12.9 mile over the course.
Â
Meanwhile, for the men, Reid won the 8k with a time of 25:21. That effort marked the fastest clocking of the meet, topping the other 57 competitors from all levels of the NCAA. The Glen Allen native averaged a 5:06 mile during the meet.
Â
The weekly award is the second for Lee after she was also named the CAC's top runner on September 20 for winning the College Division 5k during the William & Mary Invitational. Meanwhile, Reid has now been named the Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week three times in his career. He was previously celebrated for his efforts twice during a decorated sophomore campaign.
Â
Both standouts will return to action on October 29 for the CAC Championships in Hershey, Pa.
