CNU Tennis Volunteers at Peninsula SPCA Dog Wash

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport University tennis teams, under the guidance of first-year Director of Tennis Eric Christiansen, set a new benchmark for fundraising at the Peninsula SPCA Dog Wash in early November. The Captains helped raise a record-breaking amount of money at the dog wash, chipping in with their hard work as part of their fall community service event.

"It's always great to be able to get both of the teams together to give back to the community," said Christiansen. "It really helps us build relationships outside of the University and it also helps to create camaraderie amongst the teams."

CNU picked up the scrub brushes, shampoo and hoses, and also even dressed the part, wearing the SPCA mascot costume to help flag down potential donations. Here are some quotes from the Captains:

Sophomore Emily Draheim: "The dog wash was an awesome way to serve the community! It felt great to be able

Senior Julia Downs: "It was great to be able to spend time with my team doing something so fun and helpful for the community!"

Senior Robert Wagner: "We really had a good time helping a great cause."

Sophomore Angela Stallman: "Playing with the dogs was awesome! I couldn't think of a better way to serve by community."
