NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- After one week of play, the Christopher Newport University Captains have jumped two spots in the national polls, now coming in as the #3 team in the nation. CNU went 3-0-0 to start the season, outscoring opponents 7-1 with a pair of shutouts.
Last season, the Captains became the first CNU team in history to reach a #1 national ranking and in 2010, head coach
Steve Shaw's squad has been at it again. The Captains opened with a 4-0 win over Randolph-Macon, and then added a pair of victories in the 2010 VCAM CNU Classic this weekend, dropping Haverford, 2-1, and regionally ranked Stockton College, 1-0.
The third-ranked Captains will take their season on the road for the first time this weekend, when they face Rowan University and Kean University in neutral site battles this Friday and Saturday evenings. The game against Rowan will begin at 5:00 pm on Friday on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan College. Rowan is ranked in a tie for 10th in the South Atlantic Region.
The NSCAA/HendrickCars.com National and Regional Rankings are released every Tuesday throughout the season and are available through the NSCAA website at www.nscaa.com.
