NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- For just the third week in CNU history, a Captains team has earned the nation's top ranking. Also for the third time, it is
Steve Shaw's men's soccer team at the top of the list. The Captains are ranked #1 by both the HendrickCars.com/NSCAA Coaches Poll and the d3soccer.com rankings.
Last season, Shaw's Captains became the first CNU program in history to earn a national number one ranking and stayed atop the list for two weeks. This year, they have been ranked in the Top Five all season and had been #2 for the last two weeks before top-ranked Calvin suffered a loss last week.
CNU has raced out to an 8-0 start, outscoring opponents 27-3 so far this season. The Captains have posted five shutouts and are sporting a 0.38 team goals against average. This week, the Captains will travel to Virginia Wesleyan College on Wednesday, September 29 for a 7 pm kick-off before traveling to Texas for their toughest challenge this season as they face #6 Trinity and Southwestern this weekend.
