Boward Named Men's Lacrosse Coach

Newport News, VA - Christopher Newport University Director of Athletics C.J. Woollum today announced the promotion of TODD BOWARD to Head Men's Lacrosse Coach. Boward served as acting coach of the Captains during the 2010 season, and has been an assistant coach at CNU since 2008.

“We are very pleased to welcome Coach Boward to his new position,” Woollum said. “He did a great job on an interim basis this past spring and we're excited about the direction he's going to take the program.”

Boward, a native of Baltimore, MD, was the head boy's lacrosse coach at Christchurch School in Christchurch, VA, for a season before joining the CNU staff.

“It's very exciting to be able to continue coaching lacrosse at Christopher Newport,” Boward said. “I've had tremendous support from the entire athletic department and my players this past year, and I'm looking forward to continuing the success of the program.”

Boward played lacrosse while a student at Frostburg State University, and served in the United States Army after graduating in 1987.

Following a 20-year military career, Boward retired as a Major and returned to lacrosse as an assistant at Forest Park High School in Manassas, VA. After one season as an assistant, he took over as head coach and led his squad to three district championship games.

Boward coached the Indiana University men's lacrosse program for one season in 2006, and led the Hoosiers to a 10-6 record. He was named the Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association Coach of the Year.

Boward and his wife, Christina, reside in Newport News with their daughter, Hayden.
