NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Two school records fell, to Chris Banks and Jared Rader, at the CNU New Captains Classic Saturday. Then Sunday, Richard Roethel gained an automatic NCAA qualifier in the decathlon and set a new school record with 6709 points.
Banks threw the hammer 161-4 to set a new mark and then placed himself at No. 10 all time at CNU in the discus at 137-4.
Meanwhile, Rader set a new mark in the pole vault of 15-3 ½.
In other performances of note, Joseph Taylor became No. 5 in the pole vault at 14-3 ½, while Matthew Winkler became No. 2 in the 800 with a 1:53.25 clocking.
For the CNU women, Laurie Murphy's 4:48.23 1500 put her at No. 2 all time, while Adrianna Carter is now No. 6 in the shot put after her 38-8 ¼ toss.
Juliana Yensho took fifth place on the CNU hammer list at 127-5, Amy Wampler moved into No. 7 in the 10,000 at 40:57.37 and Sarah Hawley's 91-5 javelin toss gave her eighth place all time at CNU.
In a non-CNU note, Jacoby DuBose, of Pierce Sports Training, set a POMOCO Stadium/Irwin Belk Track facility record with a 14.07 110 meter hurdles.
