Women's Tennis Rolls to 16-1 by Beating Shenandoah 7-2

WINCHESTER, VA - Christopher Newport improved its youth-defying women's tennis record to 16-1 Wednesday, rolling past Shenandoah 7-2 in a USA South Athletic Conference match.

Erin Spinks, Melisande Downs and Dani Cribb won in singles and doubles for CNU. Lauren Kelly teamed with Spinks for a win at No. 2 doubles, and No. 2 Marion Gloor and No. 3 Kim Morrissett cruised to singles victories.

The points from the Hornets (6-7, 3-5) came at No. 1, where Briana Malley edged Morgan Huff 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) and joined with Denise Myrick for a 9-7 triumph over Gloor and Huff.

CNU, which started six freshmen and a sophomore (Kelly) on Wednesday, will try to pull into a first-place tie when the Captains meet the front-running Methodist Monarchs on Saturday in Fayetteville, N.C.
