Men's Soccer Wins Spring Challenge, 2-1

NEWPORT NEWS, VA- The Captains put everything on the line for their 2010 spring soccer challenge when they hosted the William and Mary Tribe. Last year, the Captains fell short to the Tribe 3-2 in a well matched game.

The game kicked off at 7 p.m. on Captains Field to a great crowd in attendance. The Captains lost their Second Team All-American, Winston Mattheisen, when he had to leave the game early with a head injury. The Tribe got on the scoreboard first off a penalty shot right before the end of the first half.  The Captains came out firing in the second half when Brian Lybert found the back of the net for CNU off a free kick to tie the game at 1-1. The Captains struck again when  Danny Franklin found a deflection off the post of a CNU shot on goal and scored the game winning goal for the Captains late in the game.

The Captains will return to Captains Field next Fall on September 1, 2010 to face Randolph-Macon College at 7 p.m.
