BURLINGTON, N.C. - The CNU baseball team kept its hopes alive in the USA South tournament with a 14-2 win over Ferrum Saturday night.
T he Captains will play unbeaten Shenandoah at noon Sunday. They will have to beat the Hornets twice to claim the conference title.
Saturday CNU jumped on Ferrum pitching early, scoring five runs in the first and three more in the second.
Mike Romett blasted a three-run homer in the first, his third of the year.
Drue Vernon belted a two-run triple to highlight the second.
Vernon finished with three hits and two RBIs as the Captains pounded out 16 hits.
Ben Lenda also had three hits and two RBIs, while
Luke Saunders,
Steven Lindemuth and
Shayne Kersey all had two hits each.
Shannon Mark added his second home run of the season and
Connor Madden added his team-leading eighth.
Tyler McElhenney went the distance on the mound picking up his second win of the year.
The Captains are now 21-13.
