LYNCHBURG, Va. - Several CNU track and field athletes won events and had top all-time Christopher Newport performances as the Captains competed in the Lynchburg Merrill Lynch Track Classic Saturday.
For the women, the 4x400 relay team of
Kristen Bell,
Michelle Stauffer,
Dira Hansen and Shannon Walker won its event in 4:00.33.
Stauffer also placed fifth in the 800 at 2:24.85 (9th all time at CNU).
Three runners had top performances in the 1500. Laurie Murphy was 2nd (4:52.32, 5th CNU),
Amy Wampler third (4:55.25, 6th CNU) and
Brooke Rowe fifth (4:57.30, 8th CNU).
In the hammer,
Adrianna Carter was fifth (129-2, 5th CNU) and
Jill Raines ninth (108-8, 10th CNU).
Karen Bumiller was second in the 5000 in 19:29.51.
On the men's side,
David Woodson won the 5000 (15:08.32,3rd CNU).
Matthew Winkler took first place in the 800 (1:55.54, 11th CNU) and
Brian Huffman was fourth (1:58.49).
Jeff Ball placed eighth in the javelin (138-3, 10th CNU) and
Jonathon Wade was tenth in the hammer (113-7, 10th CNU).
CNU hosts its own Blue & Silver Challenge next Saturday on the Belk Track at POMOCO Stadium.
