2010 CNU Football Schedule Released

NEWPORT NEWS, VA- Christopher Newport University Director of Athletics C.J. Woollum and Head Football Coach Matt Kelchner today announced the release of the school's 2010 football schedule. The upcoming season will be the 10th since the inception of the football program at CNU, and the Captains will again have one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the nation.

“Wesley will be a very tough opener and Salisbury has been a solid program over the years,” Kelchner said. “We've added Frostburg State to complete the non-conference schedule and combined with the USA South slate, this coming season will offer some tremendous challenges.”

The Captains will open the season at POMOCO Stadium on the Christopher Newport campus on Saturday, September 4th, hosting Wesley College of Dover, Delaware. It will be the first home meeting ever with the Wolverines.

CNU will then play three straight road games, including non-conference battles at Salisbury (September 11th) and Frostburg State (September 18th). The Captains open USA South Athletic Conference play at Shenandoah on October 2nd.

Christopher Newport will then host Averett on October 9th during Family Weekend at CNU. The Captains travel to Rocky Mount, North Carolina, on October 16th to take on North Carolina Wesleyan in what will be the 100th game in CNU football history.

The Captains host Greensboro on October 23rd at POMOCO Stadium, and play Ferrum College during Homecoming Weekend at POMOCO Stadium on October 30th.

CNU concludes the regular season with two games in November. On the 6th of the month, the Captains travel to Tennessee to take on Maryville. Christopher Newport then plays host to Methodist (November 13th) to conclude the regular season.

The Captains have posted a 62-32 record over the first nine seasons for a winning percentage of .660, and have advanced to the NCAA Tournament six times in the first nine seasons.
