CNU Athletes Shine at Vince Brown Invitational

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Several Christopher Newport track and field athletes had performances among the top in school history at the Vince Brown Invitational held Saturday at the Freeman Center.

Two competitors in the women's 3000 had top 10 marks. Senior Liz Bissell ran 10:54.39 to improve to No. 5 all time. Freshman Karen Bumiller's 11:05.61 earned her the eighth best time ever at CNU.

Two women pole vaulters also had top ten marks. Freshman Kalee Hammerton cleared 2.85m/9-4 1/4 for sixth place all time and sophomore Lisa Ames went 2.40m/7-10 1/2 for 9th on CNU's list.

Freshman David Fishman earned a No. 8 all-time ranking in the pole vault by going 4.10m/13-10 1/4 and Adrianna Carter took fourth place on the CNU list in the weight throw at 12.64m/41-5 3/4.

In addition, unattached runner Patrick Roach set a Freeman Center record in the 800 with a 1:53.35 clocking.

CNU will next host the Mason-Dixon Conference Indoor Championships at the Freeman Center Feb. 20.
