NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport University men's soccer team (13-1-1) slipped in the national polls this week, dropping out of the top spot. According to the D3soccer.com National Rankings, the Captains are still the #4 team in the country, while the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) lists CNU as the #10 team.
Christopher Newport, who held the top spot in the rankings for three straight weeks, posted a 1-1-1 mark last week, snapping a program-best 12-game winning streak. The Captains dropped a 3-2 decision at N.C. Wesleyan, receiving votes in the D3Soccer.com Poll, followed by a 2-0 victory over Methodist and a 2-2 draw at Virginia Wesleyan.
For the first time all year, CNU also dropped out of the top spot in the NSCAA Regional Rankings, as #8 Salisbury (12-1-3) leapt ahead of the #10 Captains.
Christopher Newport returns to action tomorrow night at Shenandoah in USA South action. The game will kick-off at 7 pm.
