NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Christopher Newport Men's soccer team captured its sixth win of the season as they defeated the Marietta Pioneers 1-0 on Friday night.
The first half saw the Captains and the Pioneers play very physically but to a scoreless tie. Marietta senior Matt Sleyzak received a yellow card in the 14th and the Captains' Clif Kipper received one of his own in the 23rd minute.
The Captains outshot the Pioneers 7-0 in the first half including three off the posts but came up empty.
The second half saw the Captains continue to put pressure on the Pioneer defense but they were not able to come up with a goal until the 77th minute when Clif Kipper scored on a penalty kick. This was Kipper's team leading fifth goal of the season.
The Captains outshot the Pioneers 22-2.
CNU will return to action on Tuesday as they will host Roanoke at 7:00 pm.
