JEKYLL ISLAND, GA – Christopher Newport's golf team shot a first round 303 on day one of the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate hosted by Oglethorpe Friday.

Oglethorpe shot an opening round 292 and stands in first place. Illinois Wesleyan and Methodist are tied for second with a 296, Huntingdon is fourth with a 297, Trinity is in fifth with a 301 and Greensboro is sixth with a 302.

The Captains were led by Kyle Schaffner's one-over par 73. Chris Olson fired a 76, Matt Wagner and Joseph Suarez each finished with rounds of 77 and Joseph Evans followed with a 78.

CNU returns to action Saturday for round two of the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate.
