YORK, Pa. - Forced into a third straight penalty kick shootout, and a fourth in the last five games, the CNU men's soccer team finally saw the magic end in an Elite 8 contest Sunday afternoon.
CNU had grabbed an early lead when Sean Moriarty scored with an assist to Brian Lybert in the 19th minute.
But the Ephs tied the contest in the 63rd minute on a goal by Will Winston. That forced CNU into its third straight PK shootout, having won games against Lynchburg and Stevens in the last eight days, and another in the USA South championship against N.C. Wesleyan.
Clif Kipper made CNU's first attempt, but the next three failed giving the win to Williams, 4-1.
Goalie Justin Wolfe helped for the shootout by making nine saves.
CNU closed its season with an 18-2-4 record, reaching the Elite 8 for the second straight year and the third time in program history.
