Former Pitcher Kenny Moreland Named NCAA Statistical Champion

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Former Christopher Newport baseball standout Kenny Moreland was named the NCAA statistical champion for victories, the NCAA announced this week.

 

Moreland led the Captains and the nation with 13 wins and did not lose a decision. He had a 1.97 ERA with 116 strikeouts in 109 innings pitched while walking just 16 batters.

 

He was named the ABCA and D3baseball.com Pitcher of the Year. Moreland was also a First Team All-American selection by both organizations. He also took home First Team All-Region honors and was the South's Pitcher of the Year.

 

Moreland was also honored as the USA South's Pitcher of the Year and a First Team All-Conference pick.

 

He signed a free agent contract with the Baltimore Orioles and has been assigned to the Bluefield Orioles of the Appalachian League. He is the probable starting pitcher for Friday night's game against the Princeton Rays.
