Brittany Collins was named the State's Player of the Year.

Collins Named State Player Of The Year, Birch Named Coach Of The Year

DANVILLE, VA – Christopher Newport volleyball player Brittany Collins was named the State's Player of the Year for the second season in a row and Head Coach Lindsay Birch was named Coach of the Year, the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association announced Friday.

 

Collins, the two-time USA South Player of the Year, helped lead the Captains to the program's first ever NCAA Tournament victory this past season. Collins finished her career as the school's all-time leader in assists and service aces. She's also ranked in the top 10 nationally in career aces.

 

In 2007, Collins finished with 119 kills, 1,277 assists, 123 aces, and 354 digs. She was also a First Team All-USA South pick three times and was also a First Team All-State pick three times. Collins was also named the USA South's Tournament MVP three times.

 

Birch was also named the USA South's Coach of the Year, the third time in her tenure. It's also the third time she has been named the State's Coach of the Year. She guided the Captains to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in her six seasons as coach, including the first NCAA Tournament win in program history.

 

Earning Second Team All-State Honors was junior Allie Wolfe. The Yorktown, VA native led CNU in kills with 373. She also had 41 aces, 331 digs, and 37 blocks. Wolfe was a First Team All-USA South selection as well as a member of the USA South's All-Tournament squad.
