ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- For the fourth consecutive season and fifth time in program history, the Christopher Newport women's soccer team has been recognized by the United Soccer Coaches for overall academic success as a program. In a release from the national coaches association, the Captains were listed among 889 total and 556 women's teams from around the nation to post a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher in 2019-20.
Led by three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American
Carson Pokorny, the Captains posted a 3.30 combined GPA last year. Pokorny became the first student-athlete in CNU Athletics history to collect CoSIDA Academic All-American honors three times in her career when she garnered her second first team selection in 2019.
Twenty-one of the CNU women's soccer players earned CAC All-Academic Team honors in 2019-20. The conference All-Academic Team honors student-athletes who finish the academic year with a 3.20 grade-point average or better while participating in one or more of the CAC Championship sports. That impressive group included five four-time Academic All-Conference selections in

Shaye Doherty,
Logan Montel,
Carson Pokorny, and
Sydney Rife.
The United Soccer Coaches College Women's Team Aademic Award was instituted in 1996; to qualify for the award, a team must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to be eligible.
